Welcome Message

We are delighted to invite you to the 23rd National & 2nd International Conference of Bangladesh Society of Agronomy, which will be held from 07-09 December 2024, in Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh, Bangladesh. Join us for a rich scientific program on “Smart Agronomy for Sustainable Crop Production” featuring inspiring invited and keynote speakers, as well as contributions from researchers working on this exciting topic.

Conference Focus

Smart agronomy for sustainable crop production represents the integration of advanced technologies and scientific principles to optimize agricultural practices. It focuses on employing data-driven decision-making processes, precision agriculture techniques, and innovative farming methods to enhance productivity while minimizing environmental impact. By leveraging tools such as remote sensing, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and predictive analytics, smart agronomy aims to improve resource efficiency, crop resilience, and overall farm profitability. This approach not only supports sustainable food production but also contributes to the long-term health of ecosystems and communities dependent on agriculture.

About the Venue (Bangladesh Agricultural University)

Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) is the premier seat of higher agricultural education and research in the country. BAU was established as the nation’s only University of its kind on 18 August 1961. Its scholastic activities cover all the domains of agricultural sciences having direct bearing on terrestrial and aquatic productivity. The campus, with an area of about 1200 acres is located in scenic rural surroundings on the western bank of the Old Brahmaputra River, 5 km south from Mymensingh Railway Station and 120 km north from Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh. It also houses two national research institutes, namely, Bangladesh Institute of Nuclear Agriculture (BINA) and Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute (BFRI). About Bangladesh

Bangladesh lies between 20″34′ and 26″38′ North Latitude and 88″01′ and 92″41′ East Longitude with a total landmass of 1,47,570 square kilometers (56,977 Sq. miles). Bangladesh is surrounded by India on the West, North and Northeast, Myanmar on the Southeast and the Bay of Bengal on the South. Bangladesh has a strategic location and acts as bridge between South Asia and Southeast Asia. It has a population of 147 million people. In other words, it is roughly the size of New York State with half the entire population of the United States crammed into this area. Bangladesh has a tropical monsoon climate with heavy summer rain and high summer temperatures. Winters are dry and cool. South and Southwest winds dominate from mid-April to mid-October and bring enormous amounts of moisture from the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. 95% of the total rainfall, which averages about 80 inches (2,040 millimeters) occurs during that period. The temperatures range from an average of about 68°F (18°C) in January to about 86°F (30°C) in April. Bangladesh enjoys a great bio-diversity in its flora and fauna. The flower “Shapla” (Nymphaea nouchali) is the national emblem, Magpie Robin (Doel) is the national bird, while the Royal Bengal Tiger is the national animal of Bangladesh which abounds in the Sundarbans, recognized as a world heritage.

These picturesque geographical boundaries frame a low lying plain of about 1,47,570 square kilometer criss-crossed by innumerable rivers and streams. Mighty rivers are the Padma (Ganges), the Meghna andthe Brahmaputra (Jamuna).

Bangladesh offers many tourist tourist attractions, including archaeological sites, historical mosques and monuments, longest natural beach in the world, picturesque landscape, hill forests and wildlife, rolling tea gardens and tribes. Tourists find the rich flora and fauna and colorful tribal life very enchanting. Each part of the country offers distinctly different topography, flavors and food. It is home to the Royal Bengal Tigers, freshwater pink dolphins, historical temples made of red earth.
